WILDLIFE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
We are certainly busy at this time of
year.
Planting for wildlife is on-going at
the Clubhouse property, the Walker property and the Long Swamp.
There is information that there maybe
be a considerably different and easier way to obtain a Firearms Possession
and Acquisition licence. we are supposed to be getting details in May.
There is controversy going on over a
proposed white cedar cut in the Johnson's Harbour deer yard. We know that
our deer are here because of timber cutting. We also know that the wrong
kind of cutting (large clear cuts) can be very detrimental. We are attending
meetings to stay informed and to have input into cutting policy/control.
Things are very quiet regarding the
Indian Commercial Fishery. In reality, there is a great deal going on.
It is expected that decisions regarding this fishery will be announced
in the near future, decisions that will have a direct influence on our
local open water sports fishery.
The Club is participating in the Rankin
Resources Group's organizing and operation of future management. Right
now, Lorne Smith and Lloyd Jackson are heavily involved in planning to
preserve the major bat colony at Issac Lake.
And all this while the turkey season
opens and the fish are in the Bay. As I say, a busy time of the year.
