News Year's Eve Party
For the first time in many years, the
S S A had a party to bring in the new millennium. While the attendance
was less than hoped, those present had a great time. We have decided to
again have a party this year. This is not intended as a fund raiser but
simply as a cost recovery event. All S S A members and guests are welcome.
However, we need to know how many to expect. Would you call John Ford at
372-0410, Fred Geberdt at 376-2369 or Richard Manley at 376-4669 to tell
us numbers. We will inform you as to times and costs. Be sure that costs
will be kept to a minimum and be much less than other parties on this special
night.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE.
The millennium year in the life of the
S.S.A. is now drawing to an end and once again it has been a tremendous
year for the Sydenham Sportsmen's Association. A great deal has been accomplished
such as Zone and Provincial recognition's; extensive Fish and Wildlife
management projects; the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular; negotiations towards
a management agreement regarding the former Owen Sound Derby landfill site;
extensive renovations to the trap shooting range making it one of the best
in Grey-Bruce; and the list of achievements could go on and on! I, on behalf
of the Directors, offer my thanks and appreciation to all those members
who offered their time and talents in working so hard and so long to make
the S.S.A. once again the top Conservation club in Ontario, if not in all
of Canada. Our January meeting will be the last opportunity to place nominations
for the 2001 S.S.A. Directors. I would encourage those folks who have the
interest and the time (and it does take some time) to stand for election.
I can guarantee it is a rewarding experience being involved in the policy
decision making process of this fine organization. One of our long serving
Directors, Bill Thompson, has chosen to step down and I do offer my thanks
and best wishes to Bill in his personal pursuits of curling and golfing.
Both Ivah Lois and I give our thanks for all the help and guidance we have
received over the past year and do wish you all a very Merry Christmas
and all the best in 2001.
Richard Manley, President
NOTICE CONCERNING THE YOUTH ACTIVITIES
PROGRAM
We are working on the continuation of
the Y.A.P. Program. As you are aware it takes a lot of time and commitment
to keep this program running. During the past year we have been very fortunate
to have Tim and Cheryl Henrich supervising the juniors and their activities.
As for the future of the program it has been decided that the Y.A.P. members
will take a more active role in the administration of the program. At a
general meeting held November 12th a new executive was elected.
Co-chairs Jesse Henrich & Laura Stephenson
Secretary Sarah Stephenson
Directors - P. K. McCallum, Cory Henrich,
Justin Trout & Jon Campbell
Any other Y.A.P. members willing to assist
are more than welcome. We will try to have monthly meetings and at that
time review upcoming activities.
We are in the process of determining which
juniors and students are interested in participating. The current system
of phoning all families is tiresome and usually fruitless. We need to know
if you would like to be notified on upcoming events and also what you would
like to see happen.
Some of the activities that are being
scheduled for the year 2001 are: winter camp out and survival training,
summer camp out, kids fishing day, bird house building, helping with the
fish stocking program and work projects at the S. S. A. property. There
are other activities as well and we are always open to suggestions.
What we need now are your names on schedules
for the club to see where the interests are and also who to contact for
each event. We ask that you call one of your contacts listed below and
tell us if you are interested and in what. If you do not call we will take
your name of the contact list. To be included we need your name on our
list.
Our next meeting is January 7th
2001, 1:00 P.M. at the little white house. At this meeting we will
assemble our active member lists and arrange upcoming activities.
