
2008 Salmon Spectacular
21st Annual
August 22 to August 31, 2008
1. All participants agree to abide by the Regulations of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the Department of Transport "Small Boat Safety Regulations," and the Regulations of the OWEN SOUND SALMON SPECTACULAR™.
2. Participants must angle only in the waters of Georgian Bay stretching from the downstream side of 10th Street bridge on the Sydenham River and the walking bridge on the Pottawatomi River, at Kelso Beach, and out to Vail's Point on the east and Hay Island on the west. The derby waters include all of Owen Sound and Colpoy's Bay.
3. The contest runs from 12:01 a.m., Friday, August 22, 2008 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday August 31, 2008.
4. Fish will only be weighed at the official weigh station at the Owen Sound Marina. The weigh station will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, except Sunday August 31, 2008 when it will close promptly at 2:00 p.m. Fish will not be weighed outside of the times indicated.
5. Fish caught only after derby registration, and caught within the boundaries per rule #2, and caught during the OWEN SOUND SALMON SPECTACULAR™ may be entered.
6. Only fish that are whole (not gutted) may be entered. Fish with a snag or foul hook mark, gaff or gill net mark, even if caught legitimately, will not be accepted. Previously frozen fish may not be entered.
7. Fish may be entered only once, at which time a hole will be punched in the gill plate to prevent re-entry.
8. Entries are restricted to Salmon and Trout. The Grand Prize will be awarded to the entrant with the largest Salmon and Trout.
9. Salmon and Trout (Rainbow, Brown, and Lake Trout) must weigh a minimum of three (3) pounds to be eligible for entry in the OWEN SOUND SALMON SPECTACULAR™.
10. Prizes must be accepted as awarded. The Grand Prize must remain painted as presented for at least one year from presentation.
11. In the event of a tie, prizes in question will be awarded on the basis of the earliest fish entered.
12. Tickets purchased during the derby are not valid for participating in the derby on the day of sale, except a ticket sold by authorized Charter Boat Operators to their clients.
13. Entrants fishing from boats must ensure that all other occupants of their boat, regardless of age, are entered in this event, valid tickets must be purchased one day prior to fishing, except for Charter Boats. Entrants will fish with only one rod per person at any time.
14. Participants agree to allow official representatives of the derby to inspect their boats to ascertain that all occupants are entered.
15. Family tickets are available for all members of the immediate family, including children 17 years of age and under. (Children's age is determined as of the date of ticket purchase.)
16. All participants agree upon winning a major prize they will submit to truth tests if required, and will sign an affidavit attesting to the fact that their fish was caught within the rules of the contest.
17. Participants agree that the organizers may, at their discretion, hold any fish for biological examination and testing. Major prizes will not be released until such testing is complete.
18. Each contestant upon registering to compete in the OWEN SOUND SALMON SPECTACULAR™ agrees to hold the sponsors, organizers, their agents and employees harmless from any liability of any nature and kind for any injuries and/or damages suffered during or after the period of the contest, by entrants.
19. The participant agrees that the decision of the Officials is to be final on all matters.
20. Prizes not picked up by October 31, 2008 will become the property of the Sydenham Sportsmen's Association.
21. Any participant guilty of an infraction of the rules will be disqualified from the contest, and any prizes will be forfeited.
22. The Grand Prize Winning Salmon will be a replica mount by Advanced Taxidermy. The Grand Prize Trout will be a replica mount by Advanced Taxidermy. The winners, in accepting these prizes, agrees to allow the Sydenham Sportsmen's Association unlimited use of said mounted fish for promotional purposes until Sunday August 31, 2009.
23. Owen Sound provides the angler with clean water and edible game fish. Any angler found guilty of wasting his catch will be disqualified from the OWEN SOUND SALMON SPECTACULAR™. Any angler disqualified for this reason will have all prizes forfeited.
24. Prizes will be awarded daily for the 10 largest Salmon and 5 prizes will be awarded daily for the largest Trout.

25. All Salmon and Trout entered over 3lb. are eligible for a draw prize of a Sportspal Canoe package including accessories. Additional daily draw prizes will be offered.
26. Charter Boat Captains agree to deposit client ticket stubs in a designated drop box prior to fishing.
